Ricky Williams, fresh off turning down an interview request with a Herald colleague earlier this week, traveled to Austin, Texas Wednesday for a golf tournament featuring a bunch of Longhorns. At that event Williams talked to the local newspaper and a couple of local television stations and, in so doing, let everyone in on a little secret: He’s playing two more seasons and he’s outta here. Williams apparently plans to play out his current contract which expires after this season, play one more year after that, then hit the road. “All professional athletes have to come face to face one day with their professional mortality and finding a way to cope with it,” Williams told News 8 Austin. “I’ve managed that. I have a couple of more years of football left in me and then I’ll go off and explore the world after that.”

Mike Silver of Yahoo Sports has a long article about diabetes that occasionally mentions Jay Cutler (who recently found out he has diabetes). You can read it here. Cutler was loosing lots of weight, but he is now back up to 230 pounds. Cutler says he feels “10 times better” than he did a month ago.
Andy Reid is excited about the Eagles this year. “Coming out of the mini-camp, I liked the intensity and the enthusiasm and the attitude of the team. I like the speed of the team. But we’re only in shorts. I was excited about what I saw from the team, but I realize it is only in shorts,” said Reid in a one-on-one interview the other day in his NovaCare Complex office. “I thought it was one of the better efforts since I’ve been here. It was as good-looking a group from a football standpoint as I’ve seen since I’ve been here. But that doesn’t mean anything right now. We have to keep building and working hard. The players are still going through their offseason program, busting their tails and working hard.”

I thought monstrous size and murderous rage came naturally. NFL investigators have met with a convicted steroids dealer, who has said he provided performance-enhancing drugs to professional football players, according to a newspaper report. David Jacobs pleaded guilty last year in federal court to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute anabolic steroids and was sentenced to probation on May 1. He has said he sold steroids and human growth hormone to NFL offensive lineman Matt Lehr and another NFL player. He also said the players he provided performance-enhancing drugs supplied them to other NFL players.

Wide receiver Marvin Harrison is expected to report for the Indianapolis Colts’ mandatory three-day minicamp Friday, the Indianapolis Star reported. When asked if Harrison would be in camp, Indianapolis coach Tony Dungy told the Star, “I’m assuming he will.” Harrison, 35, has been questioned by Philadelphia police about an April 29 shooting outside of a bar he owns in North Philadelphia. According to reports, a 32-year-old man was shot in the hand and a 2-year-old boy sustained a cut when a car windshield was shattered by a stray bullet. The investigation is ongoing. Police said Harrison has cooperated and is not a suspect at this time.

There is a noticable absence of females in these drunken shirtless party pictures. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…but…
The Dayton Daily News reports that the groin injury that ruined Bengals LB Ahmad Brooks’ 2007 season still is causing him pain and limiting his practice reps. “They backed me off,” Brooks said. “They know my situation. They know I’m not 100 percent right now, so my reps were limited.” Snaps are precious for Brooks this offseason as he moves from middle linebacker to strong-side linebacker.
